A few years ago I had the wonderful opportunity to
live on a beautiful island in the Caribbean called Montserrat, the place my
husband called home. For me, It was the
opportunity of a lifetime to live the island life and escape the frozen tundra of
Minnesota that I call home. I love Minnesota don’t get me wrong, but I couldn’t
pass up the chance to live in such a unique and gorgeous place.
the Caribbean, lived the island life, learned to surf, cliff jumped into the
ocean, learned to garden, learned to quilt, and found out I had more in common
my new family than I ever thought possible.
You always hear horror stories about in-laws, but it seems I am one of
those lucky ones that gets along with and enjoys spending time with mine.
you ask? Well while I was down there my
Mama Clover (mother-in law) and I painted my nephews’ room with Dr Seuss
murals. It was so much fun to do and
there wasn’t much planning involved.
Their mom painted the bottom section of the room green and we grabbed
some Dr Seuss books and started to work, no real plan going in.
The first wall that was started was the guys from green eggs and ham as well as the Lorax (flying by the seat of his pants i might add) and a few other guys. It had already been painted (besides shading and outlines before i was brought in on the project). We finished this wall together and then moved to the two remaining walls that were getting murals.
Clover worked on the wall with the Cat in the Hat, while I created the Horton wall.
Looking back I wish we had planned a little bit more on the room and made the whole thing flow slightly better from one scene to the next. Fortunately everyone is very happy with the room, even me, especially since this is the first time I ever painted murals or done Dr. Seuss.
Love,

You did a fantastic job Elise. Quite an undertaking to do more than one wall.

Thank you so much! It took awhile but it was a lot of fun!

This is freakin' awesome! Dr. Seuss is my all-time favorite children's book author. I wish I had that room when I was a kid, cut since I can't have my room painted like that anymore, maybe I will just pass it on to my kid. I'm starting to instill her the love for Dr. Seuss and she's liking it as well. For sure, she would love it if I transformed her room into something like this. 🙂 Kids should be exposed to these kind of educational books.

I agree more Dr. Seuss (and people like him) are needed in this world. Thank you so much for your kind thoughts Clinton.
