When I told you another Grainline Archer was in my near future, I wasn’t kidding! I loved my first one so much I had to make a second one – also in plaid flannel. I wasn’t really looking to make another one so soon, but when I stumbled upon this fabric at only $4.50 a yard I was sold.
The fabric is a flannel shirting material and it quite cozy and soft. Since my previous archer turned out a little big I decided to make a straight size 2. It fit perfectly in the shoulders and hips it just needed a small amount of tailoring to give it a little more shape for my petite frame.
Since making the first archer this one went together even more smoothly since I knew what adjustments I needed to make (lengthening the sleeves, making the pockets smaller and tailoring the waist). The only other change I made was to make the cuff plackets wider so they could be buttoned shut. I found that on my first archer the plackets tend to sit open too much for my liking and I like the more tailored look of these plackets.
If you are interested in making a cuff placket like mine I followed this tutorial by Frocks and Frolics on Sew Mama Sew and used the free template shown on the page. I just increased the length of the template pattern to fit my sleeve, the width was perfect and looked similar to a ready to wear shirt I own.
After making this pattern a second time I am even more excited to make more clothes, and I will definitely be buying more Grainline patterns in the future since this one went together so wonderfully. I also have a feeling a will be making a few of these in the coming months as gifts since I showed them to a few friends who hinted at their upcoming birthdays.

I love it. I might need you to show me how you did it. I know we chatted about it but I might need more hands on work.

Thanks Jodi! It is a lot easier than it looks, especially once you understand a few of the tricks. Let me know if you ever decide to make one. I’d be glad to help!
